Lib Dem Carmel Preston has gained a Tory seat in Southport's Cambridge ward

Liberal Democrat campaigner Carmel Preston has seized a seat in Southport's Cambridge ward from the Conservatives. Her stunning victory at the expense of the current Mayor of Sefton takes the number of Lib Dem councillors in Southport to 14 out of 21.

Local nurse Carmel Preston of Marshside has been a hard working member of councillor Sue McGuire's Focus Team in Cambridge ward. Sue says "Carmel Preston is prepared to knuckle down and get her hands dirty for the sake of the community that she lives in and cares about."

Carmel Preston (Liberal Democrat) 1,939

Tommy Mann (Conservative) 1,542

David Cobham (Southport Party) 447

Muriel Langley (Labour) 200
