Community Rail Day is on 26th May 2007

Community Rail Day is being held on Saturday 26th May 2007. The major goal of the day is to increase local awareness of the public transport services on offer in the community. It is also hoped to strengthen community station adoption groups on the Southport - Wigan line and to provide a fun day to involve the community.

Community Rail Day is being organised jointly by the West of Lancashire Community Rail Partnership and OPTSA (Ormskirk, Preston and Southport Travellers Association). An independent celebrity judge will be present to award prizes to the best stations on the day. Prize categories include Station in Bloom, Station Art, and Best Community Involvement.

Local events are entirely up to the local community, subject only to safety issues. On railway property specific sensible safety rules apply, and guidance is available. Anyone interested in getting involved at Meols Cop station should contact Cllr David Sumner on 01704 576660.
