Local election candidates for Southport 20076.15.36pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 6th Apr 2007
Nominations have closed for the local council elections on May 3rd and there are no real surprises in Southport. Long serving Liberal Democrat Councillor for Kew Ward, and former Mayor of Sefton, Terry Francis is retiring. Ainsdale Conservative Councillor Tony Brough is also not re-standing. Barring any last minute withdrawals, there will be 28 candidates for the 7 available seats. As well as full slates for the three main parties, there are 5 candidates for the Southport Party, 1 for UKIP, and 1 BNP. The candidates are listed below in the order that each party came in the ward at the last election (2006). An asterisk* indicates a sitting councillor seeking re-election. Ainsdale Ward: Terry Jones (Con), Ann Hindley (Lib Dem), Frank Warner (Lab). Birkdale Ward: Simon Shaw* (Lib Dem), Janet Rowell (Con), Terry Durrance (UKIP), Frank Robinson (Lab). Cambridge Ward: Carmel Preston (Lib Dem), Tommy Mann* (Con), David Cobham (SP), Muriel Langley (Lab). Dukes Ward: Les Byrom* (Con), Bill Hibbard (Lib Dem), Harry Forster (SP), Catherine Cookson (Lab). Kew Ward: Mike Booth (Lib Dem), Adam Kennaugh (Con), John Lee (SP), Steve Jowett (Lab). Meols Ward: David Tattersall* (Lib Dem), Mike Swift (Con), Margaret Brown (SP), Maureen Stoker (Lab). Norwood Ward: Brian Rimmer* (Lib Dem), Jaine Chisholm-Caunt (Con), Mike Nolan (Lab), Jim Ford (SP), Carol Atherton (BNP).
